TUMMY TUCK
Abdomen
Tummy Tuck is a surgery that removes certain amounts of skin and fat. There will be a reduction in the corporal weight that varies in agreement with the volume of each patient's abdomen. The aesthetic result, however, is not due to this loss in weight but to the proportions that the abdomen maintains with the remaining part of the trunk and the members.
Paradoxically, the abdomens that present better aesthetic results, are those from which the smallest removal is made. Most women present a certain "flabbiness" of the abdomen after 1 or several childbirths, with skin predominance located in the area. These cases allow us excellent results.
In other overweight cases, the result will also be compensatory and proportional to the remaining part of the body; however, it is important to remember that fat excess in other neighboring areas of the abdomen will still exist and we advise our patients of this point in case of continuous treatment for proportional balance.
Rarely does the Tummy Tuck surgery bring serious complications, as long as it is performed under technical criteria. This is achieved by preparing each patient conveniently for the operative action, as well as following through with careful orientation in reference to other simultaneous surgeries.
Usually, the anesthesia used is epidural (spinal) or similar. However, in special cases, general anesthesia may be used. The surgical action itself lasts around 2 hours. The period of the patient's internment is 1 day (normal evolution), and is discharged on the following day of the surgery.
The scar resulting from a Tummy Tuck is located horizontally immediately above the pubis hair, being prolonged sidelong in longer or shorter extension, depending on the volume on the abdomen to be corrected. This scar is planned to be hidden under the bathing clothes and underwear.
The navel will not be changed. Your own navel will be transplanted and, if necessary, remodeled.
In the postoperative phase, compressive garments (elastic belts) and modulators are used for better comfort and evolution of the surgery.
There is a misunderstanding on the part of certain patients that are operated simultaneously on gynecological surgeries associated to the Tummy Tuck, and they suffer postoperative pains. Not all surgeons recommend this association of surgeries for they constitute certain operative risks as well as their presenting inconveniences as pains and less favorable results.
In the first months, the abdomen presents a relative insensibility as well as being subject to "swelling" periods that regress spontaneously.
In this phase, there may be a "stretched" or "flat" aspect. After some months, with the beginning of guided exercises for remodeling, definitive results are gradually reached. Definitive results should never be considered before 12 to 18 months after the postoperative phase.
Do not forget that, before the final results are obtained, several phases are characteristic of this surgical application. However, you may have that desire to "want to reach the final result before the foreseen time”. Be patient because your organism will take charge of dissipating all the small intermediate upsets.
